Golden Turmeric Latte

Turmeric was first discovered in Asia, and is a flowering plant of the ginger family. Known as the most potent anti-inflammatory source of food yet discovered, it contains medicinal compounds- the most important of which is curcumin (or, the active ingredient of turmeric).

In addition to having anti-inflammatory properties, it drastically increases the antioxidant capacity of the body, improves brain function, lowers your risk of heart disease, prevents cancer and dementia, improves joint pain, stabilizes mood, slows down aging and more. Kinda cool right?

Now, one important thing to note that most recipes for golden lattes miss, is that in order for our bodies to utilize the compound curcumin, it must be taken with black pepper as it converts it to a form we can actually use… So if you are using a different recipe, make sure to toss in a pinch of black pepper to reap all the benefits.

So without delay…. Here you go!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups almond (or other non-dairy) milk
  • 1 tsp fresh ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp coconut butter (oil can work as a replacement)
  • 1/4 tsp fresh ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom
  • 1 tsp pure maple syrup (or more, to taste)
  • Small pinch of black pepper

DIRECTIONS

STEP 1: Warm all ingredients up in a small pot on the stove top. 

STEP 2: Once hot and well stirred, pour into a mug!

I love to have this in the morning, or before bed in the evening! Just a warning if you haven’t used turmeric before- it can have a staining effect so avoid contact with your nails or clothes, and brush teeth after consuming 😘
